The Jewish Calendar - A List of Hebrew Months

The Jewish calendar is different than the Gregorian calendar that is used in most of the rest of the world. The Hebrew calendar is based on the following astronomical events: the rotation of the earth along it's own axis (day), the revolution of the moon around the earth (month), and the revolution of the earth around the sun (year). The Gregorian calendar does not strictly follow these events, therefore the Jewish calendar is slightly different than the calendar with which many people in the world are familiar.

The list of Hebrew months above shows the Babylonian names that were adopted at the time that the Jewish exiles were leaving Babylon and returning to Jerusalem in the time of Ezra. The Hebrew names are also shown. In addition, the equivalent Gregorian months are shown for each month of the Jewish calendar.
