These newer engines have also benefited from technology developed in the motorcycle industry. Because of the close proximity of these jetski engines to the water, there is the possibility of ingesting water into the engine resulting in damage. Because water will not compress like air, if water gets inside the engine, it can result in serious engine damage. In the past, there have been cases where people managed to get water inside the hull and then drawn into the engine.
