Starburst candy has been around for a long time.  First introduced in 1960 under the name Opal Fruits it was invented by Wrigley company in the United Kingdom.  The Wrigley company was started in 1891!  On October 6, 2008, Wrigley merged with Mars Incorporated creating a "sweet" combination of confectionary treats like candy, gum, and chocolates.

1960 - Opal Fruits invented in UK with flavors Strawberry, Lemon, Orange, & Lime.

1967 - Opal Fruits released in the US and renamed Starburst.

1984 - Starburst Strawberry fruit chews released.

1988 - Starburst Tropical fruit chews released.

1989 - California fruit chews released.

1995 - Starburst Original Jellybeans and Starburst Candy Canes released.

1998 - Opal Fruits name phased out as the Starburst name goes worldwide.

2002 - Starburst Sour fruit chews introduced.

2003 - Starburst Squirt released with a liquid candy center.

2006 - Limited edition Starburst Icy Bursts released.

2008 - Wrigley merges with Mars Incorporated.

In part, Starburst fruit chews are made with a combination of corn syrup, sugar, palm oil, and a variety of natural and artificial flavors.  The chewy texture and fruity flavors of Starburst fruit chews make them a candy favored by many people around the world.  Many fans of Starburst candy really like the Sour varieties that Starburst offers.  At the time this page was written, there are 3 main sour Starburst varieties of candy available.

1) Starburst Sour & Sweet Fruit Chews - Sour Green Apple, Sour Watermelon, Sweet Blue Raspberry, Sweet Strawberry.  This variety of our Starburst are in the familiar fruit chews form.  These actually have 2 sour flavors and 2 sweet flavors.  Sometimes, Starburst has offered other sour flavors of fruit chews.     

2) Starburst Sour GummiBursts - Sour Watermelon, Sour Green Apple, Sour Strawberry, Sour Orange Tangerine.  These chewy fruit gummies have a liquid center and offer 4 different sour Starburst flavors to enjoy.

3) Starburst Sour Jellybeans - Sour Raspberry, Sour Lemon, Sour Tangerine, Sour Cherry, Sour Green Apple, Sour Watermelon.  Six flavors make up the sour Starburst jellybeans that are a favorite of some candy lovers.  Starburst jelly beans are known for their great fruit flavors that make them a popular choice with jelly bean fans.
